Every year on the 2nd of June 'World Peatlands Day' is celebrated. This international day marks the founding of the International Peatland Society (IPS) at the International Symposium in Aberdeen on 2 June 1967. On this day, various aspects surrounding peatlands, such as biodiversity, climate, agriculture, water purification and storage, are addressed worldwide.
