‘CARPE DIEM’ A conventional farm on drained and damaged peatland.
Carpe Diem is run by farmer Pete and his family. The farm has been inherited from father to son for many years. To be able to keep making a living the focus has been on making the farm more intensive and on new land reclamation where possible.
Farm Carpe Diem is very proud of its role in maintaining the cultural landscape heritage. The main economic activity is agriculture and particularly suckler cows and sheep.
In the discussions on reducing carbon emissions farmer Pete has been skeptical as to its own possibilities of contributing. Pete has had no interest in restoring its peatland so far because it conflicts with everything he stands for as a curator of the cultural landscape.
Furthermore the farmer is afraid of losing land and income. He has no knowledge of any farmers near him who have started a restoration in order to see this in action.
