Every year on the 2nd of June 'World Peatlands Day' is celebrated. This international day marks the founding of the International Peatland Society (IPS) at the International Symposium in Aberdeen on 2 June 1967. On this day, various aspects surrounding peatlands, such as biodiversity, climate, agriculture, water purification and storage, are addressed worldwide.

Last night around 23:00 it was announced that the popular mayor of Peatland Caroline Cresson has been re-elected in the mayoral elections, with over 67% of the votes of Peatland citizens. Her re-election is interpreted as a sounds acceptance of the city council policy with a dedicated focus on sustainable futures, and also on livability and entrepeneurship.
