Every year on the 2nd of June ‘World Peatlands Day’ is celebrated. This international day marks the founding of the International Peatland Society (IPS) at the International Symposium in Aberdeen on 2 June 1967. On this day, various aspects surrounding peatlands, such as biodiversity, climate, agriculture, water purification and storage, are addressed worldwide.
During the commemoration in the Townhall the Peatland University student Lucka Fenwick presents the playlist the Sound of Peatland as a first results of a PU research project on communicative musicality for Peatland restoration. Lucka gave a passionate introduction: “Music is an important part of life. I often have faster and firmer music on when I am cycling in the area with wind, water and bogs. When I am studying I prefer to listen to quieter music, to stay focused on the assignment”. Her PU supervisor Prof. Dr. Tess Bouchet further elaborated on how music expresses historical events, cultural traditions and the beauty of the landscape.
Listen to the playlist in Peatland Museum.
