Who we are?
Peatland university was founded in 1972 after the publication of the report “the limits to growth: a global challenge” by the Club of Rome. Over the decades we have become front runners and pioneers, pushing academic boundaries and leading social transitions. With our academic and support staff we engage in cutting edge research and education.
With the long history and the location of peatland university it comes as no surprise that we do contribute day by day to the sustainable futures of peatlands for the whole of Europe and beyond. Our research is ambitious, creative and committed. Considering contemporary challenges we focus on transdisciplinary research strategies, searching for synergies between disciplines and knowledge institutes.
How we do it?
Our education is a partnership between us and you; preparing you for the sustainable future we all should engage with. We promote an open and curious attitude. We want to equip students not only with knowledge, but also with the skills to navigate in a dynamic world. This requires diversity of perspective, agility and resilience. Students have the freedom to ask questions and engage in debate. We do this with respect for the contribution, background and beliefs of each and every individual, so that everyone feels welcome and safe. To tackle global challenges and support the transition towards sustainable futures, our students and staff work on local solutions in the field. Therefore, we work for example with mobile class rooms on location and co-creation process are set up in living labs to create learning environments.
